2026 Seedlings for Schools Grant Winners

The Florida Wildflower Foundation (FWF) is pleased to announce that 50 schools will receive our Seedlings for Schools grant this year. Each school will receive 30 native wildflower seedlings at the start of the 2026–27 school year in order to establish a campus wildflower garden.

Along with the seedlings, teachers will receive guidance and resources, including our newly updated Wild About Wildflowers! Activity Guide. Designed for third and fourth grade and aligned with state curriculum standards, the guide can be adapted easily for any age.

The school gardens can be used in a wide range of subjects, as Christina Everingham from Bashaw Elementary — a Title I school in Bradenton — illustrates. She’s looking forward to incorporating the garden in her STEAM curriculum: “In science, students will study plant life cycles, pollination, ecosystems, and the role of native species in supporting biodiversity, aligning with state standards. In math, students will measure plant growth, calculate area and perimeter for garden planning, and analyze data collected through garden observations. In language arts, students will maintain garden journals, write research reports, and create poetry inspired by their experiences. In art, they will sketch native plants and design garden-related projects. Through these activities, our students will engage in hands-on, standards-based learning that will deepen their understanding of key academic concepts while fostering environmental stewardship and critical thinking skills.”

Schools with successful gardens are eligible to receive 30 additional native seedlings in spring and may continue to apply in future years. Florida schools may apply annually in March and April. These grants are made possible with support from sales of the Florida State Wildflower license plate.
