One of the most rewarding aspects of this grant program is the collaborations it inspires! The Winter Park Library garden exemplifies the power of partnership. The project was led by UF/IFAS Orange County Extension faculty member Dr. Heather Kalaman and brought to life through the efforts of Extension staff, Master Gardener volunteers and the City of Winter Park’s Sustainability Department. Winter Park Library staff also play a key role, helping to oversee the seed library that provides native wildflower seeds and educational resources to the community.

Since its installation in April 2025, the garden has received an overwhelmingly positive response. Visitors express appreciation for it and share how much they are learning. Additionally, a dedicated group of volunteers meets monthly to care for the garden and learn about the native species planted there and the pollinators they support. The garden also serves as a living classroom, with Dr. Kalaman incorporating it into programs and classes offered at the library.
