Celebrate the summer solstice with us among the sunny blooms of American lotus (Nelumbo lutea) at Columbia County’s Alligator Lake Recreation Area.

On this three-mile hike around Alligator Lake, we’ll look for beautiful lotus flowers and summer-blooming hibiscus. This wetland also features abundant wildlife, from alligators and turtles to birds.

An easy-to-moderate trail, the terrain at Alligator Lake is flat, although some roots are present, and some areas may be wet to muddy. Comfortable hiking shoes, sun protection, water and bug spray are recommended.

Registration is free for Florida Wildflower Foundation members and $10 for nonmembers.
