Program Coordinator

The Florida Wildflower Foundation is seeking a motivated and mission-driven Program Coordinator to join our small, dedicated team. In this role, you will take the lead on some of FWF’s most visible and community-rooted initiatives — including our statewide roadsides program, the Bee City Gainesville partnership, and our Seeds of Knowledge library garden grant program. You’ll work directly with volunteers, government agencies, community partners and landowners to advance the conservation and appreciation of Florida’s native wildflowers. This is a full-time remote position ideal for someone who thrives in an independent work environment, enjoys both field and desk work, and is passionate about connecting people to Florida’s natural heritage.

POSITION: Program Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Executive Director (ED)
FSLA STATUS: Exempt, full-time salaried
LOCATION: Remote, must be a permanent Florida resident; candidates based in the greater Gainesville area are strongly preferred
START DATE: Immediate, upon agreement between candidate and ED

  • Roadsides program
    • Advocate for conservation and management of naturally occurring native wildflowers along roadsides throughout Florida
    • Serve as point of contact for all roadside inquiries
    • Assist in identifying Wildflower Areas along roadsides and in utility easements throughout Florida, and aid in developing and implementing roadside management plans
    • Coordinate with local resources to conduct or assist with roadside surveys as needed throughout Florida
    • Gather volunteer-collected data and compile reports for county public works departments and other agencies
    • Manage the Wildflower Watchers volunteer program; recruit, educate and train volunteers in each county to help facilitate local oversight
    • Engage with diverse stakeholders including but not limited to government representatives, public works departments, tourism boards and community organizations
    • Collaborate with FDOT and county public works departments to advance FWF’s goals
  • Bee City Gainesville program
    • Serve as liaison to the City of Gainesville and Bee City Gainesville program, including leading regular public and internal leadership meetings
    • Help cultivate partnerships for planting and outreach initiatives
    • Represent FWF and Bee City Gainesville at outreach events
    • Plan and coordinate planting projects, including logistics, on-site management and coordination with site managers, growers, the City of Gainesville and volunteers
    • Produce regular newsletter and volunteer communications
    • Manage and engage with FWF’s Bee City Gainesville Facebook group
    • Oversee program administration
  • Other duties (as needed):
    • Represent FWF at and coordinate outreach events and field trips
    • Deliver presentations
    • Support and assist with other programs
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, conservation or a related field; OR a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in a comparable role
  • A background in public administration or nonprofit management may substitute in part for the scientific background when combined with demonstrated knowledge of Florida’s native plant communities and government/agency processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Florida’s native plants (especially wildflowers and grasses) and ecosystems (required)
  • Demonstrated record of networking and collaboration with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit, manage, train and retain volunteers
  • Understanding of FDOT Wildflower Program, and of state, county and municipal government and public works department processes
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, email marketing and social media platforms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines and work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Florida, primarily in north and central Florida with occasional travel beyond
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, including Florida heat and terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs
  • Annual salary of $50,00–$60,000, commensurate with experience
