WEBINAR — Restoring Critical Habitat for Wildflowers and Wildlife in Florida’s Panhandle

Restoring Critical Habitat for Wildflowers and Wildlife in Florida’s Panhandle was originally broadcast live on January 17, 2024. View the recording above.

The Apalachicola Lowlands Preserve is an 80-acre in-holding within the Apalachicola National Forest managed by the Coastal Plains Institute. This webinar covers their efforts to restore an upland slash pine plantation back to longleaf pine flatwoods, as well as to protect other critical habitats on the property, which include seepage bogs and wet flatwoods.

Ryan Means is the president of the Coastal Plains Institute. He holds a B.S. in zoology and an M.S. in wildlife ecology and conservation, both from the University of Florida. Ryan’s professional interests have always been within the longleaf pine ecosystem — notably working to save imperiled amphibians and plants, and guiding human beings into this rich environment for education and rejuvenation.
