SUMMARY:FIELD TRIP - Archbold Biological Station
DESCRIPTION:Highlands County \n\n\n\n\n\nPalmetto flats by Reed Bowman courtesy of Archbold Biological Station\n\n\n\nThis field trip is sold out. Please email Rose Kinane if you want to be added to the waiting list. \n\n\n\nFlorida Wildflower Foundation members can register for field trips before the general public.  Become a Florida Wildflower Foundation member today for early access! \n\n\n\nJoin us for a tour of Archbold Biological Station\, located along the Lake Wales Ridge — Florida’s botanical wonderland. The Station studies and protects the native and endemic plants of the Lake Wales Ridge in the headwaters of the Florida Everglades. The Ridge makes up less than 1% of Florida but has 33% of its imperiled plant species. This trip will begin with a 30-minute presentation on Archbold Biological Station and the surrounding area\, followed by a guided botanical walk in the Florida scrub. \n\n\n\nParticipants should be prepared to hike up to one mile in loose sugar sand and full sun. We recommend wearing closed-toed footwear\, long pants\, and a hat\, and bringing a water bottle. \n\n\n\nTrip leader bio \n\n\n\nDustin Angell is a science interpreter and conservation photographer. As Archbold Biological Station’s Program Director of Education\, he oversees educational outreach activities for multiple audience types and works with educators and scientists across North America. Dustin is a former President of the League of Environmental Educators in Florida and a recipient of the Outstanding Educator Award from the Florida Chapter of the Wildlife Society. Dustin’s photography highlights careers in science and environmental stewardship. He is currently studying environmental social sciences as a graduate student at Athabasca University. \n\n\n\nRegistration is free for Florida Wildflower Foundation members and $20 for non-members. Email Rose Kinane to find out if your membership is current or needs to be renewed. To join as a member\, visit www.FlaWildflowers.org/membership.
