SUMMARY:FIELD TRIP - Tour of the University of Florida Herbarium
DESCRIPTION:Gainesville\, Alachua County \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLucas Majure in collection of University of Florida Herbarium\n\n\n\nThis field trip will open for Florida Wildflower Foundation members on July 16 and to the general public on July 23.  Become a Florida Wildflower Foundation member today for early access! \n\n\n\nThe University of Florida Herbarium is the botanical collection of the Florida Museum of Natural History. It contains over 510\,000 plant specimens from all continents\, including the largest collection of Florida native plant species. The collection documents the diversity of Florida’s native\, cultivated and introduced/established plants\, with specimens dating back to the early 19th century. The Herbarium’s mission is plant specimen acquisition and care\, collections-based research\, education and public service. \n\n\n\nThe herbarium tour will be led by curator Lucas Majure\, collection manager Alan Franck\, and extension botanist Marc Frank. It will last about 2 hours\, entirely indoors. The collections space is kept quite cold\, so you may want to bring a long-sleeved shirt or jacket. Be prepared for some walking and standing — seating is limited. \n\n\n\nThe standard daily parking fee on campus is $8.00. Additional location and parking information will be shared with registrants a few days before the trip. \n\n\n\nRegistration is free for Florida Wildflower Foundation members and $10 for non-members.
