SUMMARY:EVENT - Great Florida Pollinator Census
DESCRIPTION:This event is led by UF IFAS in collaboration with the Great Southeast Pollinator Census coordinated by UGA Extension.  \n\n\n\nJoin the Great Florida Pollinator Census this August 21-22 to learn about the insects in your own yard or community and contribute valuable data to help expand scientific knowledge and protect pollinators! In as little as 15 minutes\, you can participate from your own yard\, or you can find a community event near you.  \n\n\n\n\n\nImportant Links:\n\n\n\n\nGreat Florida Pollinator Census: Find Florida-based participation information and local UF IFAS Extension events here. \n\n\n\nGreat Southeast Pollinator Census: The main page for the full regional event.\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n\n\nWhere does this event occur? This is a statewide event and all that’s required to participate is a flowering plant. In as little as 15 minutes\, you can conduct a census in your own yard or at a local public natural area. There are also many in-person events happening across Florida. Find local UF IFAS-led events here. Local conservation organizations and garden clubs may also be hosting in-person opportunities to participate. \n\n\n\nHow do I conduct the census? It’s an easy process and no registration is required. You simply pick a plant to watch for 15 minutes and record the insects that land on it on the program’s data sheet. You can observe as many plants as you’d like\, just remember that it’s 15 minutes per plant and use a new data sheet for each plant. When you’re done making observations\, simply upload your data here! Here is a short video with additional information. \n\n\n\nDo I need to be an insect expert to participate? No\, for the census\, you are asked to separate insects into general categories\, not make species-level identification.
